A Custom Suit for Julebord, Christmas and New Year's Eve

By the time the first snow settles on Oslo, the invitations have usually arrived. The company julebord in November or December. A family Christmas dinner where everyone makes a little more effort than usual. New Year's Eve, with a toast at midnight. It is the one stretch of the year when almost every week asks you to look your best, and it is the season when a suit that genuinely fits you earns its place in the wardrobe.

From 12 to 16 October 2026, Rashmi Custom Tailors is in Oslo at Comfort Hotel Grand Central. If you have been meaning to replace a tired party suit, or to own a proper dinner jacket at last, October is the right moment to order.

Why October is the right time
A custom suit is made for you, so it takes time. Our live Oslo and Traveling Tailor pages give a typical delivery time of 6–8 weeks after your appointment, and it can often be arranged sooner when the schedule allows. An order placed in mid-October therefore typically arrives between late November and mid-December, in good time for most julebord evenings, Christmas and New Year. If your company party falls early in November, mention the date when you book and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

What to wear for the season
The holidays invite a little more personality than an ordinary working week, without asking you to give up good taste. A few directions we see work well in winter:

A dark suit in a richer cloth. Deep navy, charcoal, a quiet dark green or a burgundy undertone reads as festive under candlelight but is still perfectly correct at the office the following Monday. Winter-weight wools and flannels also keep you comfortable walking between a tram stop and a restaurant in December.

A dinner jacket or tuxedo. If your julebord or New Year's Eve party calls for black tie, or simply for dressing up, a tuxedo made to your measurements is one of the most useful things a man can own. It will serve you for weddings, galas and many New Year's Eves to come. Satin or grosgrain lapels, a shawl or peak collar, and a clean, close fit are all decisions we make together.

A velvet jacket. Worn with dark trousers and a crisp shirt, a velvet evening jacket is a relaxed and quietly elegant choice for family gatherings and parties where a full suit feels too formal.

Shirts to match. A new white or pale shirt with the right collar and cuffs makes the whole outfit look considered. Shirts start from NOK 750.

What happens at the appointment
Your appointment is private and one-to-one. You meet Larry, the proprietor of Rashmi Custom Tailors, who has been making clothes in Hong Kong since the house opened on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui in 1987. He will ask where and how you plan to wear the garment, then guide you through the fabric books. With around 2,000 fabrics to choose from, there is plenty of room for both the classic and the more personal.

Together you settle the details: the cloth, the lapel width, single- or double-breasted, the buttons, pockets and lining. A coloured lining is an easy way to add something festive that only you will know about. Measuring takes around 30 minutes, and there is no pressure to decide anything on the spot.

How your suit is made and delivered
After the appointment, your order and measurements go to our workshop in Hong Kong, where your garment is cut and sewn by an in-house team with careful quality control. The finished suit is then shipped to you in Norway. We keep you updated along the way, and our team can help with any adjustments afterwards. Shipping to Norway is free.

The value of a Hong Kong suit
Buying bespoke locally can be a considerable investment, and ready-to-wear rarely fits the shoulders, chest and trouser length all at once. A Rashmi suit sits somewhere more sensible: made to your measurements by tailors with decades of experience, in a cloth you have chosen yourself, at a price that reflects Hong Kong workmanship rather than a city-centre boutique.
